Ohana Performing Arts Standard of Conduct
VALUES WE UPHOLD
VIRTUE-All participants are expected to strive to be virtuous in all of their actions. Virtuous actions include striving for moral excellence and goodness. It is being honest and full of integrity in thought and deed.
WISDOM- Seek and obtain the truth. Recognize when a choice will lead to hurting others, yourself, or property and prevent unwise choices before they happen. Find solutions instead of choosing to blame others or give up.
DIPLOMACY- Fostering positive relationships with participants in our performing arts leadership community is essential. We will seek to find win-win solutions as best we can. We build bridges and help overcome roadblocks that we may have to face. Cooperation with others is expected. If for any reason cooperation is not possible, participants will speak with the parent of a student first, if a solution still cannot be resolved between both parties then participants will speak with the Parent Rep. who will bring the issue to the Board.
COURAGE- Be courageous in your actions and words. Courage means you persevere. You choose to exercise and develop the characteristics mentioned above even when it’s hard to do.
In all things, we seek for honesty, truth, benevolence, virtue, beauty, excellence, and praiseworthiness.
DRESS STANDARDS
Ohana Performing Arts (OPA) is a school where we grow, learn, and connect. Clothing should not distract from that. All members are expected to dress in a manner that is respectful to themselves and others; modest, neat, and clean. Suggestive and revealing attire, including clothing with offensive language and graphics, as well as drug, alcohol, and immoral references are inappropriate.
.
Immodest clothing includes any clothing that is sheer or revealing in the areas of chest, stomach, back, groin, and buttocks. Avoid short shorts and short skirts. Multiple infractions may result in disciplinary action.
Children will be required to wear clothing under costumes if they have a costume change.
RESPECTFUL LANGUAGE
At Ohana Performing Arts we are building a community of families that support each other in kindness and respect. To achieve this, all participants are expected to use uplifting language to speak kindly of others and to others. We encourage the sharing of gratitude and positive feedback. We avoid insults, gossip, and angry words. Crude, vulgar, or profane language or gestures are inappropriate. Jokes, stories, or the sharing of media with immoral behavior of any kind is also inappropriate.
RESPECT OTHERS PROPERTY, BELIEFS AND IDEAS
As participants in our school, we understand that we all come from different backgrounds and experiences. We conduct ourselves in a way that shows respect for ourselves and others in their beliefs, and ideas. This is essential for building a strong community and culture. Belief discussions are encouraged as long as all parties feel safe and loved. That being said, certain standards must be upheld, especially given the pervasive nature of modern dogma to the contrary. One of these standards we will uphold in our community is that since the beginning, humans have been created in the image of God as male or female. Understanding who we are as the offspring of a divine and eternal being plays a significant role in how we present ourselves to others and how we treat others.
Inappropriate displays of affection are to be avoided. Personal space and boundaries are to be respected. Matters of concern will be brought to the attention of the parents as needed in this area. Ongoing matters of concern should be brought to the Parent Representative, who will bring them before the Board.
RESPECT FOR FACILITIES
Individual behavior reflects on Ohana Performing Arts and the home school community as a whole. Attitudes, behaviors and actions should always be courteous and respectful.
It is expected that each student will contribute to the cleanliness and care of the building and any other area visited during school time.
We are privileged to have the use of Willard Renew Church each week. In order to retain this privilege, all participants of Ohana Performing Arts (OPA) are expected to act respectfully and responsibly when they are on the grounds of the church.
OPA will not be responsible for any damage caused by students; parents of the student will assume the cost of any damages.
Each class and participant is responsible to clean up after themselves thoroughly.
Each family is required to help with the cleaning of the facility.
Failure to comply with cleanliness and respect will be met with a warning or parent meeting and the ability to continue to participate in OPA will be discussed.
As a parent I agree to:
1. Stay current with the fees and tuition payments. (If you need extra assistance, please talk to the Parent Rep or Executive Director.)
2. Read, review, and follow the Policies and Procedures of OPA
3. Volunteer at least 10-20 hours a semester in some capacity (see volunteer opportunities document)
4. Participate in fundraising efforts.
5. Help keep my child/ren accountable for practicing lines, songs, and/or choreography at home if they are in the musical production.
6. Contact OPA’s parent representative if my child will be absent for illness or any other reason.
7. Keep any commitment I may make to assist in OPA’s program for the whole semester.
8. Respect the Directors of OPA and understand that they have full discretion to determine who may or may not participate in OPA programs.

STUDENT AGREEMENT
As a student of OPA I understand:
I must follow the Ohana Performing Arts Standard of Conduct in order to continue to participate in programs offered.
Failure to show respect to ALL involved in the program may result in my replacement in a show and may influence future audition decisions and/or future participation in classes.
For students in the Musical production, directors and mentors give parts based on many different aspects of performing for stage productions and will allow the student to request 3 different roles that they would be happy to perform in the show. That being said, all parts need to be filled and each play an important role in creating a beautiful stage production so requests may not always be filled. With this understanding, I must humbly and gracefully accept my role and put in the work necessary for my best performance in that role. “There are no small parts, only small actors.”-Konstantin Stanislavski
If a costume is assigned to me I understand that I am fully responsible for those costumes. All costumes loaned to students must be treated with care and returned in the fashion they were assigned to you.
I must practice a strong work ethic and learn and practice my part at home.
